The Good News is finally here in Siskiyou
County here in the Siskiyou Source, "A People's Paper for Positive Living".
First, I'd like to thank you for your support and for your interest in this publication.
My name is Cindy Summers and I'm the owner/publisher/editor of Siskiyou Source.
I feel media has a very underutilized opportunity to inform and educate the
public, and I hope to help change this. I also feel that it's important to share
positive things going on in our communities because quite often they inspire us,
cause us to feel joy, or have a renewed sense of hope. This project began
several years ago when I left another local publication and was asked to start
a new publication in Siskiyou County. Numerous people contacted me throughout
the county with the same request, stating that they had appreciated the positive,
objective and ethical style of journalism I represented. I worked as the acting
executive director for public access television in Mount Shasta for the following
year, and then for a local business working with various satellite communication
technologies. Prior to living in Scott Valley, I lived in southern California
and worked as an information systems executive for Disney/ABC, as well as heading
the technical support department for Symantec/Peter Norton and also worked for
GTE. I feel that my technical skills and abilities can help bring communities
together through media technologies. My vision is for the Siskiyou Source
to be a hub of community information that can reach every corner in the county,
as well as reaching every person in a positive and informative way. I call it
"A People's Paper for Positive Living" and hope to convey that it's
all about community collaboration. The goal is to inform, entertain and educate
Siskiyou County residents about local events and local people. The more we know,
the more we grow as individuals and can understand the lives of others. At
the bottom of each page you will find Sponsor Spots, which cost $25 and can have
just about anything in them. Happy birthday or anniversary wishes, business information,
congratulations or just about anything that can fit on a business card. The idea
is that purchasing Sponsor Spots helps to provide space for our communities to
share information. I hope to eventually have community correspondents that
are in all the various areas throughout Siskiyou County, who you can see if you
want to get something into the Source. Technology is a valuable tool in this endeavor
to save time and to help to minimize the distance between us. I'm also planning
to grow the content as we go to include youth news and views, music reviews, book
reviews, new arrivals, remembrances and much, much more. The paper size I
chose is known as tabloid (11x17). I feel is easier to manage and is exactly two
8.5x11 size sides - easier for reading, copying and carrying around. I plan to
limit the number of jumps in the layout to help provide more consistent content,
as well as using 3-4 column sections with the content to make it easier to read.
I will also endeavor to make the layout and text simple to read, and have lots
of pictures of story items and events around Siskiyou County. If you like
what you see, just subscribe and we will send the Source right to your door.
I'm hope to build long, prosperous relationships with areas throughout Siskiyou
County, and look forward to hearing from you real soon - especially if you've
got some good news to share. (Pemiere Issue Editorial,
